  • Mikel Obi says Mauricio Pochettino is lucky to be Chelsea’s manager still
  • The Blues have suffered a miserable season under the Argentine
  • Chelsea are presently 11th on the English Premier League table

Former Chelsea midfielder John Mikel Obi is unimpressed with Mauricio Pochettino’s records as the Blues manager following an underwhelming campaign under the Argentine.

The West London club recently lost the League Cup final to Liverpool and stands at risk of not qualifying to play European football next season as they are currently in 11th position on the Premier League table.

According to the Daily Post, Mikel, who won several laurels for Chelsea, including the UEFA Champions League, claims Pochettino would have been sacked if Roman Abramovich still owned the club.

“This is Chelsea. You have to win. You have to win games and trophies.
“Yes, we’ve given them time, but they have had time to start gelling, coming together, and playing much better. I defend the players and coach. They have to be given time, but how much time? This is Chelsea FC. If this was the [Roman] Abramovich era, he would have lost his job.”

Pochettino arrived in the summer but has struggled to get Chelsea performing consistently this season as the Blues look set to miss out on Champions League football for another campaign.

Pochettino responds to Gary Neville jibe

Meanwhile, Pochettino insists Chelsea were not inspired to win their FA Cup clash against Leeds United after they were roasted by Gary Neville, GOAL reports.

The Blues were labelled "billion-pound bottle jobs" by the ex-Manchester United defender after they lost 1-0 to Liverpool in extra time of the League Cup final last weekend.

Chelsea needed a late Conor Gallagher goal in added time to seal a 3-2 hard-fought win against Leeds and progress to the quarterfinals of the FA Cup.

Mikel promise Chelsea fans Osimhen

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Mikel Obi says working behind the scenes to convince Super Eagles forward and Napoli superstar Victor Osimhen to join Chelsea.

The 25-year-old forward has been strongly linked with a summer move to the Blues as Mauricio Pochettino continues his search for a marquee striker to join the Premier League club.

Mikel assured Chelsea fans he is working pretty hard to convince Osimhen to snub other offers and join Chelsea in the summer.
