Morocco, who are the best-ranked African team in the FIFA rankings, per Sportskeeda, will be looking to get a positive result during the tie to book their spot in the round of 16.

The Atlas Lions kicked off their campaign with a 3-0 win over Tanzania, with DR Congo settling for a draw against Zambia.

A win for DR Congo in the tie will put them on the cusp of qualification for the knockouts, while a draw will leave them with work to do in their final group fixture against Tanzania.

Who is Peter Waweru?

Peter Waweru, who officiated the 2021 AFCON, will be the centre referee during the Morocco vs DR Congo fixture, per Kenyan sports journalist Carol Radull.

Waweru, a professor of Pure and Applied Mathematics, is also a lecturer at the Jomo Kenyatta University of Technology.

The 41-year-old graduated with a Bachelor of Science in mathematics and computer science before he undertook a Masters of Science in Pure Mathematics.

He also holds a postgraduate diploma in education technology from the University of Cape Town.

Waweru started his refereeing career in 2011 in the lower-tier leagues before he made his bow in the Kenya Premier League two years later.

He has previously officiated other competitions, including the World Cup qualifiers and the CAF Champions League.

Earlier, Sports Brief reported on Salima Mukansanga inking her name in history books ahead of the 33rd edition of the Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.

The 34-year-old became the first-ever female referee at the continental showpiece after being selected among the match officials for the tournament.
