According to BBC, the shot-stopper returned to the national team back in September, months after he was suspended for 'disciplinary reasons' during the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Despite the commencement of the Africa Cup of Nations, Onana received permission to postpone his return to Africa for international duty, as Manchester United reached an agreement with the Cameroonian FA.

According to SPORTbible, Onana and Cameroon officials agreed that he would remain with United until January 14.

And now it appears that the former Inter Milan custodian is poised to represent his country in the continental championship.

Onana heads to AFCON

A video posted on X (formerly Twitter) showcased the Manchester United goalkeeper on what was reported to be a chartered flight en route to Cameroon's base in Yamoussoukro.

Following a 2-2 draw against Tottenham Hotspur in the English Premier League, Onana promptly boarded his flight, continuing on his journey to join the Cameroon national team.

Cameroon is scheduled to kick off its campaign against Guinea on Monday, January 15, at 17:00 GMT.

Onana has experienced a challenging start at Old Trafford since his transfer from Inter Milan in the recent offseason, marked by a series of notable mistakes and difficulties.

Onana concedes twice vs Tottenham

On Sunday, January 14, United hosted Tottenham in a crucial Premier League match with aspirations of improving their standing in the league.

It was expected that Onana would be in the starting XI, possibly in his last game for the club for the next few weeks.

Sports Brief had previously reported on how Manchester United fans pinpointed a specific aspect of Andre Onana's game that the goalkeeper needs to improve.
