Riyadh Season broke the news through a press release on Tuesday, November 21. They disclosed that matches will be held in a league format starting in the first week of February 2024.

This may mark the last time Ronaldo and Messi face each other in a football match before they call it quits. The two are widely considered the greatest footballers of all time. Ronaldo and Messi faced each other in January when the Argentine was still a member of PSG.

Riyadh Season was inaugurated in 2019 and is an event held in Saudi Arabia's capital, Riyadh. It is an entertainment and sports festival held between October and can last up to March.

Ronaldo and Messi last dance?

Ronaldo and Messi are in their late 30s, and they are edging towards retirement.

The Portugal star is not showing signs of slowing down, though. He is the top scorer in the SPL this season, with 13 goals in 12 appearances, per Transfermarkt.

His stats for 2023 alone are on par with those of Kylian Mbappe, Harry Kane and Erling Haaland. Therefore, he may still have a few years before he walks away.

Moreover, he should be part of Portugal's squad for the 2024 European Championship set for next summer. Meanwhile, Messi lit up the MLS when he joined Inter Miami in July. The 36-year-old is also preparing for the 2024 Copa America.

Before their adventures in Europe, these two battled many times in Spain. They broke many records and won countless awards in the last decade.

Ronaldo settles long-standing GOAT debate

Sports Brief also reported on Cristiano Ronaldo perhaps ending the raging GOAT debate with his latest thoughts on the enduring rivalry between himself and Lionel Messi.

The long-standing and impassioned debate regarding who holds the title of the greatest of all time between these two football legends is one that may continue indefinitely.

However, Ronaldo's remarks during Portugal's press conference could be seen as a pivotal moment in potentially settling this debate once and for all.
