Real Madrid lifted their 14th European Cup in 2022 after beating Liverpool in the final.

Their journey to the final was full of dramatic comebacks, late goals and narrow wins. They trailed in the knockout stages against Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea and Manchester City.

Barcelona legend Gerard Pique appeared to imply that Real Madrid got lucky in the 2021/22 Champions League.

Carlo Ancelotti's aside had a tough path to the final, where they won their fifth Champions League title in eight years. They were close to elimination in the Round of 16, quarter-finals and semi-finals ties.

Furthermore, they were stunned by Moldovan minnows Sherrif Tiraspol in their first Group game but came to win their group.

They were 2-0 down in their round of 16 ties against PSG but won 3-2 thanks to a brilliant Karim Benzema hat-trick.

They needed 80th and 96th-minute goals to beat Chelsea 5-4 on aggregate in the quarters and scored two 90th-minute goals and 95th-minute winner to eliminate Manchester City in the semis.

Pique takes swipe at Real Madrid

Pique recently claimed that Barcelona's Champions League wins will be remembered "forever" while Real Madrid's won't.

He has now clarified his comments, explaining why he made those controversial comments about Real Madrid.

"They’re going to remember it for other things, for the epic comebacks...But this is enough for them and that is the greatness of Real Madrid, that being good for five minutes in the semi-final against City makes you win,” via Madrid Universal.

He added that every Champions League title that Barcelona won, they were superior to everyone else, unlike their arch-rivals, Madrid.

Ancelotti responds to Pique

Sports Brief earlier reported Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti responding to comments made by Pique about their 2022 Champions League wins.

"Pique’s words? He lives in his own world.No one will ever forget our 14th Champions League title. We will remember it for all our lives."

Pique's comments struck a nerve, and it just shows the hatred Real Madrid and Barcelona have for each other.
