Barely a week after making history for France, Paris Saint-Germain youngster Warren Zaïre-Emery has been ruled out for the rest of 2023 with an ankle injury.

The 17-year-old became France's youngest player and goalscorer since 1914 in the Euro 2024 qualifier against Gibraltar.

In a statement through their website, PSG announced that the midfielder had "suffered a moderate sprain of his right ankle" and will be out until January 2024.

Zaïre-Emery has been getting plaudits this season and received his first call-up for the November international break. He made his debut for the two-time World Cup winners and scored his first goal in the 16th minute.

However, he was taken off four minutes later after sustaining the injury. France thrashed Gibraltar 14-0. It is a setback for the midfielder who hoped to impress ahead of the 2024 Euros.

Zaïre-Emery makes history

It has been an eventful two weeks for the PSG youngster.

He received his first call-up to the French national team, made his debut and scored his first goal and breaking a 100-year record in the process.

"He's ready," said Kylian Mbappé in his post-match interview. "Playing in your first match like that, undaunted, playing your game... I know what it's like to start young, it's not easy to do what he's doing. You have to recognise how impressive that is," via Ligue 1.

Zaïre-Emery has made 15 appearances for PSG this season and has started 14 of them.

PSG starlet sets new France record

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that PSG's budding talent, Zaire-Emery, achieved a significant milestone in his football career by debuting for the France national team.

He's now the youngest French player since the pre-World War I era, surpassing Real Madrid's Eduardo Camavinga, who joined the French team at 17 years and nine months in September 2020.
