FootballReal Madrid Reportedly Snubs Alonso, Set to Bring Back Former Manager as Ancelotti’s Replacement
- Carlo Ancelotti is set to leave his post as Real Madrid manager next season
- Los Blancos have lineup Zinedine Zidane as possible replacement
- Xab Alons was the leading candidate for the Santiago Bernabeu's top seat
Real Madrid are reportedly contemplating a return for former manager Zinedine Zidane, as they might face difficulties securing Xabi Alonso.
Reports indicate that acquiring Alonso could incur a cost of €18 million for Los Blancos, prompting them to explore alternative options.
As per El Nacional, cited by Sportskeeda, it appears highly likely that Carlo Ancelotti will depart from the Santiago Bernabeu at the end of the season when his existing contract concludes.
The Real Madrid leadership was purportedly not fully convinced by the Italian coach last season but opted to honour his deal due to his overall contributions to the club.
The report further states that Ancelotti will become the next manager of Brazil, while Alonso had initially been identified as Ancelotti's successor at Real Madrid.
Alonso, gaining recognition for his managerial success at Bayer Leverkusen, currently leading the Bundesliga table with an unbeaten record this season, seemed a promising choice.
However, Real Madrid may have to explore other options as they are reportedly hesitant to pay €18 million for Alonso's services. The former Liverpool midfielder turned manager has extended his contract at the BayArena, now set to run until 2026.
Given these circumstances, there are indications that Real Madrid is considering a return for Zinedine Zidane. The French football legend previously managed the club in two separate spells and has been without a managerial position since his departure in 2021.
