FootballLuis Diaz: ELN Group Gives Condition to Release Kidnapped Liverpool Star’s Father
- Luis Manuel Diaz is getting close to being released once the final conditions are met
- The Liverpool star's parents were kidnapped over a week ago, but the mum was released
- Diaz scored at the weekend and used it to ask for freedom for his father, who is still in custody
Luis Diaz's father is close to being released by the ELN guerilla group in Colombia after they gave a final condition to the government to ensure a safe release.
Diaz's parents were kidnapped over a week ago, but the mother was released the following day while the father, Luis Manuel Diaz, is still in the custody of the abductors.
The Colombian government identified the ELN guerilla group as the faction behind the abduction, with the group responding he was abducted unknowingly and would be released.
Over three days since the group confirmed he is in their custody, Luis Diaz Snr is yet to regain his freedom due to one final condition laid down by the abductors.
Condition set for Luis Diaz Snr release
The group have released another statement explaining why the release of the Liverpool winger's father has not happened and have called on the government to make it easy for both parties.
Per Daily Star, they want all efforts by the government to find him stalled to ensure his safe release and avoid incidents with the military and reduce risks.
The player returned to action for his club on Sunday, coming off the bench to score a late equaliser that prevented the club from getting embarrassed by a 1-0 defeat to newly promoted Luton Town.
Diaz dedicated the goal to his kidnapped father and took to his Instagram page afterwards and published a statement pleading for the immediate release of his father, which has put the family in so much anguish.
"I ask the ELN for the prompt release of my father, and I ask international organisations to intervene for his freedom," a part of the statement reads as translated.
