  • Romelu Lukaku has hinted at giving a tell-all interview explaining the drama that surrounded him the summer
  • The Belgian has been in impressive form for Roma since joining the club from Inter
  • There were reports he would join Juventus as he was not in Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino’s plans

On-loan Roma ace Romelu Lukaku has vowed to tell it all about his summer transfer saga.

Lukaku seems to be settled at Roma, his current club where is on loan from Chelsea, but that was not the case in August 2023 as his future was up in the air.

The Belgian was put up for sale but he did not attract considerable suitors while at Chelsea, new boss Mauricio Pochettino was keen to start his tenure without the towering striker.

He was strongly linked with a move to Juventus, which angered his former club Inter. The negotiations went nowhere, and the 30-year-old ended up teaming with Jose Mourinho at Roma.

As a Giallorosi, Lukaku has hit the ground running with seven goals in eight games across all competitions.

“I almost exploded”

While speaking on his transfer saga in the summer, Lukaku told The Mirror that he ‘almost exploded’ as he was reading reports about him.

According to the striker, most of what was being discussed about him was false.

“I know what has been going on behind the scenes, but when I tell my story, I want everyone to listen to my point of view for once and nothing is taken out of context,” he said.
“The time is not yet right for that. We are in a good groove. At Roma, we won the last three matches and I left with good vibes. At the national team, it is also an important week. But I read so much ‘nonsense’.
“There were also a few clubs I wouldn’t go to [Juventus]. At one point, I was about to explode. When 90 per cent of what is said about you is not true, it is hard to keep your mouth shut. Five years ago, I would definitely have exploded, but now I didn’t put my energy into it. Not now, either. If I really told the truth here at this moment, many would be shocked.

Meanwhile, 90Min reports that inter-CEO Giuseppe Marotta has urged Lukaku to move on from transfer saga.

Marotta questioned Lukaku’s motives while speaking at the Trento Festival of Sport, as he accused the striker of thriving on controversy.

Inter CEO on Onana

Sports Brief also reported on how Inter CEO refused to rule out a move for Andre Onana, just months after the goalkeeper left the club.

Onana left Inter in the summer to seal a move to Old Trafford to replace David de Gea, who left after the expiry of his contact with the Red Devils.

“I can’t predict the future but… in football anything can happen," Marotta told Gazetta, per transfer guru Fabrizio Romano.

Onana has not made the best of starts at Manchester United, and has often come under criticism for his howlers when he is naturally expected to make crucial saves.

Notably, pundits and opposition managers have noted a major flaw in the Cameroon internationall’s game as players have been urged to ‘shoot early’ against him.
