Bayern Munich have been consistently plagued by injuries to their defensive lineup since the beginning of the new season.
The Bundesliga powerhouse were forced to field an improvised central defensive duo, featuring midfielder Leon Goretzka and fullback Nasser Mazaroui, during their DFB Pokal clash against Liga 3 side Preussen Munster.
The club’s hierarchy had considered the prospect of signing the experienced free agent and former defender Jerome Boateng as a temporary solution to their injury woes.
The 35-year-old club legend had already begun training with Thomas Tuchel’s side pending the completion of paperwork when reports emerged about an impending fan protest in any instance the club moved ahead with the signing of the defender.
According to the German outlet Bild, this decision left the former Bayern defender frustrated, having demonstrated his ability and fitness during training. Boateng subsequently took to Instagram to address the situation.
Boateng speaks on failed Bayern Munich return
The former Lyon defender, who recently turned down an opportunity to join English Premier League club Everton, posted referring to the situations that had played out.
In his Instagram post, Boateng thanked FC Bayern for giving him the opportunity to prove himself at Säbener Straße and expressed gratitude to Thomas Tuchel and his coaching staff for their support in including him in the team.
He also mentioned how reuniting with familiar faces and friends was a pleasure and wished the team success for the season.

The conversations between the two parties had always been respectful, and they had a fruitful discussion in the end, where Boateng thanked the club for the opportunity to train with them.
With his hopes of returning to the Bavarian club dashed, Boateng will now explore other options, which may include a move to the Saudi Pro League, a possibility that cannot be ruled out.
