FootballRomelu Lukaku: On Loan Striker Aims Dig at Chelsea After Bright Roma Start
- Romelu Lukaku scored his sixth and seventh goals for AS Roma against Cagliari
- The Belgian returned to Italy on loan despite Chelsea wanting a permanent sale
- His comments after his heroics for his new club appear to be aimed at the Blues
Romelu Lukaku is talking tough and appears to have aimed a dig at his parent club, Chelsea, after getting off to a flying start for AS Roma.
Lukaku and the Blues were keen to end their turbulent relationship in the summer, with both parties open to a permanent move away but ending up with a loan move to the Italian side.
As per Sky Sports, the Giallorossi paid £8 million and will cover the player's wages even though the Belgian reduced his £17mil salary to £7mil to allow the club to fully cover it.
The former Everton striker has scored seven goals in his first eight games - five in Serie A and two in the UEFA Europa League - to maintain his goal-scoring streak in the competition dating back to 2014.
Lukaku appears to aim dig at Chelsea
According to Opta Paolo, only Roma legend, Gabriel Batistuta's return of eight goals in six league games bettered Lukaku's return of five in six, marking the second-brightest start to life in Rome.
Speaking to DAZN after scoring twice against Cagliari, as quoted by Football Italia, the Belgian's comments appear to be directed at much speculation over his future in the summer.
"I am a professional. I worked over the summer. Lots of people talked about me, but I do my talking on the field. I am happy with how things are going and want to continue like this," he said.
His comments about not being a talker appear to be off the mark, as it was an unsanctioned interview in which he criticised former boss, Thomas Tuchel that landed him in trouble.

FootballLukaku tipped to help Roma win title
Sports Brief also reported on Filippo Inzaghi tipping Lukaku to help Roma win the Serie A title after comparing the Belgian's arrival to that of the legendary Batistuta.
The capital club last won the Italian top flight title in 2001, with help from the iconic Argentine striker. Lukaku is having a similar start to life in Rome as the legend.
