Al-Nassr reportedly called off a training session on Monday in Iran as hundreds of enthusiastic football fans gathered en masse to catch a glimpse of Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Knights of Najd arrived in the capital city of Tehran ahead of their AFC Champions League group stage clash against Persepolis on September 19 at the Azadi Stadium.

According to Sportskeeda, substantial crowds had congregated around the training facility to witness the Portuguese superstar in action.

Due to possible security concerns, Al-Nassr reportedly suspended the training session.

As reported by AP News, fans also gathered at the Espinas Palace Hotel in Iran, where the team is being accommodated, to enthusiastically chant: 'Ronaldo, Ronaldo' in the hotel's public area.

This game marks the first encounter between Saudi and Iranian teams on their respective home turfs since the 2015 AFC Champions League.

This historic meeting was facilitated by the re-establishment of diplomatic relations between the two nations earlier this year. The return fixture is scheduled for November 27 in Riyadh.

Ronaldo to make AFC Champions League debut

The upcoming match in Tehran could signify Ronaldo's debut in the Asian elite football competition and he is anticipated to lead his team onto the pitch as they aim for their first AFC Champions League title.

Per UEFA, the 38-year-old achieved UEFA Champions League success five times during his tenures at Manchester United and Real Madrid but is yet to secure a FIFA-recognised championship with his new club.

Ronaldo 'mania' hits Iran

Sports Brief also reported that Iran was stricken by 'Ronaldo fever' as enthusiastic fans pursued Al-Nassr's team bus and thronged the hotel upon the superstar's arrival.

Huge crowds lined the streets and mobbed the team bus, hoping to see the 38-year-old superstar ahead of Tuesday's Asian Champions League tie with Persepolis.

This demonstrates that Ronaldo's popularity has expanded even further across Asia following his trailblazing move to Al-Nassr in the Saudi Pro League in January this year.
