- A CD Marathon defender stole the headlines with a bizarre two-footed tackle
CD Marathon defender, Andre Orellana grabbed the headlines after he was shown a red card for his horrible two-footed tackle in his side's defeat against CD Olimpia.
The tie between both teams, which was closely contested, required an 84th-minute strike from forward Kevin Lopez to secure the victory for the away side on the night.
However, despite the enthralling football spectators were treated to on the night, it was the highly dangerous tackle of 21-year-old fullback Orellana that dominated the headlines.
Orellana's dangerous tackle
According to reports from Sport Bible, the fullback was sent off after he wiped out two players, Carlos Pineda and German Mejia, with an unexpected two-footed challenge.
The tackle, which came barely minutes from the 90, left the referee with no choice but to send the young defender off.
Orellana spoke about his red card at the end of the game with media outlet DIEZ.
"The truth is I was wrong and I apologise to everyone, you are human and you learn from mistakes.
"I think it was a play where the momentum and courage for the game overcame me, it is not correct at all."
The defender also spoke about apologising to his opponent Meija, who was on the receiving end of his bizarre tackle.
"Germán Mejía told me that nothing was happening, that he loves me and that I was part of the game, that I should not lose my DNA and that I should continue working, that I have a lot to continue growing."
Fans who saw the tackle took to social platform X to air their reactions:
