  • Barcelona defeated Real Madrid in the latest instalment of El Clasico
  • Goals from Dembele, Ferran Torres and Fermin Lopez ensured the Blaugrana’s triumph
  • Head Coach made his thoughts known about the fixture after the game

The El Clasico did not disappoint as Barcelona took rivals Real Madrid to the cleaners in another instalment of the “El Clasico Americano”.

Xavi’s men got on the front foot in the 18th minute after a well worked set piece goal appeared too hot to handle to Real Madrid’s Thibaut Courtois who was making his return from an injury.

The Blaugranas eventually put the game to rest with two late goals from substitute Fermin Lopez and a resurging Ferran Torres.

For many, especially those who watched the game this result did little justice to what was actually an amazing football game.

It is quite intriguing to contemplate how a match in which Real Madrid struck the woodwork five times and made a total of 28 attempts on goal, resulted in a resounding three-nil triumph for Barcelona.

The astonishment over this unexpected outcome is not limited to the fans alone; even Barcelona's coach, Xavi Hernandez, has openly expressed his amazement at the turn of events.

Xavi speaks on El Clasico

Xavi visibly satisfied with his team’s performance did not hold back his view of the game.

Speaking to Marca after his team’s win Xavi said:

“I think the result could have been different. It's misleading
“I think Madrid played well.”

Xavi was satisfied with the result of the Clásico, but further made it clear that the result cannot make his team look good either. In addition, the Barcelona coach took the opportunity to request more signings from the club’s hierarchy.

Despite how the game panned out, and how the in-game play went, Xavi's men would have to shift their attention to their next friendly against AC Milan before drawing their preseason to a close against Tottenham, as earlier reported by Goal.

Xavi displeased with Arteta

In a previous report, Sports Brief stated Barcelona coach, Xavi was angry with how Arsenal carried themselves in their pre-season friendly.

The game was Barca's first in their pre-season tour after their opening clash vs. Juventus was cancelled after some of the players fell ill.

The Gunners beat the Spanish giants 5-3 in the encounter, but some dangerous tackles overshadowed it.
