Carlo Ancelotti could be in big trouble with the Spanish authorities after the Real Madrid manager was accused of defrauding the country’s treasury in 2014.
The Italian manager is the latest big name in Spanish football to be targeted by tax authorities in recent years with Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi also pursued.
According to Football Espana, the Real Madrid manager was accused of defrauding the Spanish Treasury of €386,361 in 2014. The funds relate to his image rights at the time.
The charge against Ancelotti will now be moved to the trial stage as the judge believes the Italian manager deliberately hid the money from the country's tax authorities.
The incident is said to have happened during Ancelotti’s first spell in charge of Real Madrid between June 2013 and May 2015, in a tenure that lasted 693 days.
Madrid hunt for Ancelotti’s replacement
Meanwhile, Real Madrid has begun their search for Ancelotti’s replacement after the Italian confirmed he would be taking charge of the Brazilian national team after the 2023/24 season.
According to the Daily Post, Los Blancos will consider four of their former players to replace the 67-year-old manager, who has entered the final year of his contract with the Spanish giants.
The publication stated Real Madrid will consider Zinedine Zidane, Xabi Alonso, Raul Gonzalez, and Alvaro Arbeloa to succeed Ancelotti when the veteran coach leaves next summer.
