- The Premier League star was allegedly arrested in France for messages sent to his former partner
- Diop is in the process of a divorce, and the complaint against him was allegedly made last week
Fulham defender Issa Diop could find himself in trouble with the law after allegedly sending threatening messages to his former partner.
Diop, 26, is separating from his 29-year-old former partner, who filed a complaint against him last week.
The centre back was arrested on Sunday, June 18 at the Pullman Hotel in France, nearly a week after the initial complaint was filed.
A source revealed to Newspaper La Depeche that Diop is in a ‘world of conflict’ with his ex partner, and it all stems from divorce payments.
"Their divorce, which began months ago, is taking place in a climate of conflict,” the source said.
The alleged victim is said to have claimed "large sums of money that Issa Diop would not be ready to pay her".
Diop is said to have hinted at wanting to ‘get rid of her definitely’ amid rising tension between the two parties.
Despite the fact that the complaint was filed last week, police had to wait until Sunday to arrest Diop, who just flew in the city of Toulouse from the UK.
Police will hold the Premier League star for 24 hours, although it could be longer depending on the judge’s decision.
The Sun further reports that the former West Ham and Toulouse man is being detained at the city’s Central Police Commiserate.
Fulham have since spoken out on the situation through a club representative and will not issue a public statement until the facts are confirmed.
