Liverpool have been hailed by fans for their impressive acquisition of World Cup winner Alexis Mac Allister, who is set to sign for the Reds for only £35 million.

Mac Allister’s value has skyrocketed after the 2022/23 campaign, as he was a key figure in Brighton's charge to securing European qualification.

Not one to easily get injured, the 24-year-old made a total of 40 appearances for Brighton in the just concluded season.

According to Transfermkt, his appearances were not in vain either, as he managed an impressive 12 goals and three assists.

The likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City were all linked with the midfielder, but it was Liverpool who somehow landed his services, despite failing to qualify for Champions League football next season.

Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano announced Liverpool had reached an agreement for Mac Allister, but it was the Argentine’s transfer fee that left fans talking.

Here are some reactions from fans:

@jamiemartin said:

"£35m? Fair play to Liverpool for that recruitment. Still a decent amount of budget left too, I'd imagine - they still need another midfielder, really.”

@DiabloGooner added:

“Mac Allister for 35M and they want to swindle us 100M for Caicedo?”

@JoeRikerEvans taunted:

“If it was Manchester United Brighton would have sold him for £80m.”

While @Potam1304 said:

“Mac Allister for £35m is a steal... And we're to pay around £80m for Caicedo.”

The Argentine started his career at Argentinos Juniors before eventually moving to Brighton in 2019, where he proceeded to make 112 appearances, scoring 20 goals.

Meanwhile, Liverpool are preparing for the exits of a number of players, particularly in midfield.

The likes of James Milner, Naby Keita, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are being released by the Reds, who are likely to have a fairly different look to the team next season.

Maguire linked with Tottenham

Elsewhere, Sports Brief reported on Harry Maguire’s links to Tottenham Hotspur after falling out of favour with Manchester United.

While Maguire is not necessarily pushing to leave Old Trafford, he is keeping an open mind just in case a plausible suitor comes along in the summer.

Tottenham’s move for Maguire will come with secondary benefits, as it might convince the club’s all-time goal scorer Harry Kane to stay in North London.
