Ghana Defender Samuel Inkoom Reveals Role He Played in FC Basel's Signing of Mohamed Salah

Accra Hearts of Oak defender, Samuel Inkoom has claimed that he recommended Mohamed Salah to Swiss giants, FC Basel.

The FIFA U20 World Cup winner said he spotted the Egyptian forward during an international assignment with the Black Stars.

Inkoom then informed FC Basel about the winger, with Salah eventually joining the Swiss outfit from El Makowloon in 2012.

“I recommended Mo Salah for FC Basel,” he told Peace FM, as quoted by 3News.com.
“I used to wear the number 22 jersey at the time when the Black Stars travelled to Egypt for a game and it was the team that Mo Salah played, alongside former Ghanaian striker, Eric Bekoe, that we used to train with.”

Inkoom added that FC Basel had a Champions League match against Bayern Munich immediately after the Black Stars played so he was accompanied by his sporting director.

“...After spotting the speed of Mo Salah in training against us, [the sporting director] asked me if I could speak to him on his behalf and I did, and that was it! He told me he wanted to play in Europe.”

Inkoom played for FC Basel between 2009 to 2011 while Salah spent two seasons with the Swiss side before joining Chelsea in 2014.

The Egyptian ace went on to play for Italian clubs, Fiorentina and AS Roma before joining Liverpool in 2017, as reported by Transfermarkt.

Hearts of Oak sign Inkoom

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that capital-based heavyweights, Accra Hearts of Oak have signed Inkoom, a former full-back with Asante Kotoko.

The defender joined the reigning Ghana Premier League champions on a one-year deal and was expected to shore up the defence of the Phobians.

In a post on Twitter, spotted by Sports Brief, Hearts of Oak welcomed their latest addition ahead of an encounter against Inkoom's former club.

Salah spends time with daughter

In news related to the Liverpool star, Salah spent time with his family after a long and difficult season came to an end recently.

The Egyptian forward endured a tough campaign as Liverpool missed out on top four Premier League finish despite a late charge.

As Sports Brief reported, Salah scored 30 goals across all competitions as the English giants ended the season trophyless.
