Paris Saint-Germain have started to feel the effect of Lionel Messi’s departure from the club after the club’s social media pages witnessed a massive drop in followers.

PSG announced the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner will leave the Ligue 1 champions before his final game against Clermont on Saturday, June 3rd, and the news had caused a reaction from fans.

According to Sportskeeda, die-hard Messi fans unfollowed the Paris club on the social media app Instagram upon hearing the news of the Argentine's departure.

PSG have lost more than half a million followers on Instagram already, and it is expected that the Ligue 1 champions will still lose more followers when Messi officially joins a new club.

Messi spent two seasons with PSG and made 75 appearances for the Parisians across competitions, winning Ligue 1 in both campaigns and the Trophee des Champions in 2022.

Meanwhile, Neymar has wished Lionel Messi the best in his future adventures after he posted a farewell message to the Argentine superstar who leaves PSG after two seasons, Goal reports.

The Brazilian revealed it was a pleasure to share the pitch again with Messi after both played together at Barcelona before reuniting at PSG in 2021.

Messi has received a mega-money offer from Saudi Arabia that could see him earn £400 million, which will see him become the highest-paid footballer in the world.

Earlier, Sports Brief reported Lionel Messi's name was whistled and booed at by some section of Paris Saint-Germain supporters in his final game for the club on Saturday, June 3.

Having joined the Parisian club in 2021, Messi was billed to feature in his last match for Christophe Galtier's charges against Clermont Foot following the club's announcement of his departure after the end of the season.

Unfortunately for the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner, he received tough love from a section of PSG's fanbase, who jeered him as his name was announced in the starting XI.
