Black Princesses goalkeeper Afi Amenyeku was the hero of the night as Ghana defeated Nigeria to win the WAFU Zone B U20 Women's Cup of Nations in Kumasi.

Amenyeku saved two penalties to help the Black Princesses stroll to a 3-1 shootout victory and become the first team to win the U20 women's competition.

The Black Princesses who started slowly ended the first half strongly after taking the lead through Stella Nyamekye.

The Ghana captain converted from the spot after Comfort Owusu was fouled in the box.

However, the Super Falcons returned from the break determined to find the leveler.

The Nigerians were denied on numerous occasions by the brilliant Amenyeku, who stopped Esther Opeyemi early in the second half.

Late into the game, a mistake by the goalkeeper saw Nigeria level through Flourish Sabastien, as reported by Ghanafa.org.

The game had to be settled from the spot and goalkeeper Amenyeku made up for her howler by saving two spot kicks to ensure Ghana emerged champions.

Meanwhile, Burkina Faso defeated Benin in the other earlier kick off to finish third at the maiden edition of the WFU Zone B U20 Women's Cup of Nations.

Ghana, USA to play friendly

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that The Black Stars of Ghana will engage the United States of America in an international friendly on October 17, 2023 in Nashville, Tennessee.

The four-time African champions will use the match as a preparatory game for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

The Black Stars have played the United States at several international competitions, including three World Cup meetings.

Hughton names squad to face Madagascar
