Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was on cloud nine as his nation stunned Brazil in the ongoing FIFA U20 World Cup on Saturday, June 3.

The European nation twice came from a goal down before eventually proceeding to break Brazilian hearts in extra time when Dor Turgeman netted an earth-shattering goal to oust the South American giants from the competition.

According to FIFA Plus, Israel has accomplished a momentous feat by becoming the first debutant in eight years to reach the semi-finals of a FIFA U-20 World Cup, a record only previously held by Senegal back in 2015.

The groundbreaking nature of the result against an established football powerhouse in Brazil excited Israel's Prime Minister, who took to social media to commend the team for their valiant display.

“Our youth team has made history and brought huge pride to the State of Israel,” he wrote as quoted by Times of Israel.

Israel break Brazilian hearts

Israel produced one of the biggest wins in its football history on Saturday, stunning Brazil 3-2 in extra time to qualify for the semi-finals of the Under-20 World Cup, Sports Brief reported.

A tightly contested encounter saw Israel come back from behind twice before grabbing the shock victory through Dor Turgeman's brilliant solo strike.

The Israelis will face either Uruguay or the United States in the semi-finals.

Nigeria stun Argentina

In another interesting turn of events at the FIFA U20 World Cup in Argentina, the Flying Eagles of Nigeria are through to the quarter-final after beating the host nation, Sports Brief reported.

Ladan Bosso’s side defeated hosts Argentina right inside the Estadio San Juan del Bicentenario on Wednesday night.

Argentina put up a fight, but the Nigerian defence stood resolute. As the game entered stoppage time, Rilwanu Sarki put the icing on the cake with a flying header to make it two-nil.
