Kelechi Iheanacho: Nigerian Superstar Wins Prestigious Leicester Award Despite Relegation From EPL

Super Eagles forward Kelechi Iheanacho has been named as Leicester City's best player for the 2022/23 Premier League season despite the club losing its status in the English top-flight.

Despite featuring in only 13 Premier League games in the just-concluded season, the Nigerian star managed to score five goals for the Foxes.

Iheanacho who did not get enough playing time last season at Leicester City explained that he was unhappy after the club was relegated, stressing that the target is for them to work hard and return next season.

According to reports on Punch and All Nigerian Soccer, Iheanacho is now the first Nigerian to win Leicester City's Player of the Year and the first African to win the award since Algerian forward, Riyad Mahrez did the same in 2016.

Iheanacho since joining Leicester City

The Super Eagles star has been at Leicester City since 2017 after leaving Manchester City and has played 150 games for the Foxes netting 30 goals.

Iheanacho is also an important member of the Super Eagles squad where he has featured in 45 games netting 12 goals.

The 26-year-old has not been linked with a club which means that he is expected to remain at Leicester City.

Cubana Chief Priest hails Iheanacho

Earlier, Sports Brief had reported how Nigerian businessman, Cubana Chief Priest hailed Super Eagles forward, Kelechi Iheanacho for his incredible performance for Leicester City in their win over Tottenham Hotspur.

The Nigerian star was superb as he led the Foxes to a comeback 4-1 win over Spurs in what was a challenging Premier League battle on Saturday, 11 February.

Spurs went into this game determined to record a win, but Iheanacho and his teammates were more determined not to disappoint their home fans.

After the battle on the pitch, Iheanacho was happy that his team recorded a win and took to Instagram to celebrate by posting his action photos.
