Jose Mourinho has set an unwanted personal record after AS Roma lost the Europa League final against Sevilla on Wednesday night, May 31, in Budapest.

The Special One was hoping to lead the Italian giants to yet another European triumph for the second season running, having helped them win the inaugural Europa League Conference title last season.

However, this was not the case, with Sevilla, who have made a name for themselves as the Europa League specialists, carting home the prestigious title.

According to The Independent, the crunch clash had to be decided via the penalty shootouts after the tie ended 1-1 during regulation time.

Paulo Dybala opened the scoring for Roma in the 35th minute before Sevilla equalised shortly after the break when Gianluca Mancini inadvertently put the ball into his own net.

Neither side could find the winner in the extra time, with Sevilla winning 4-1 in the shootouts.

Mourinho sets unwanted record

The Mirror reports that Roma's Europa League final heartbreak at the hands of Sevilla brought Mourinho's incredible 20-year unbeaten record in the European finals to a halt.

Before the Wednesday night defeat, Mourinho had won each of the European finals he had qualified for with the different clubs he has managed during his illustrious managerial career.

The Portuguese won his first European final with Porto during the 2003/04 season when he helped the club win the Champions League.

According to TalkSPORT, Mourinho had been to five European finals with Porto, Inter Milan, Manchester United and Roma, winning all of them.

Dybala cries uncontrollably

Earlier, Sports Brief reported Paulo Dybala was inconsolable after Roma lost the Europa League final against Sevilla on Wednesday night at the Puskas Arena in Budapest.

Roma's heartbreaking defeat left Jose Mourinho's charges distraught, with Dybala caught on camera crying uncontrollably.
