Real Madrid players expect the club not to sack Carlo Ancelotti following their embarrassing exit from the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday, May 17.
Vinicius Junior stood by Ancelotti after Los Blancos were bundled out of Europe’s elite competition. They crumbled to a 4-0 defeat at the Etihad Stadium against Manchester City, leaving questions about the Italian’s future.
According to Football Espana, Luka Modric also has backed Ancelotti to continue as Real Madrid’s manager, despite the club’s failure to reach a consecutive Champions League final.
“It’s football, but I think that in the Cup and in the Champions League we have done very well. For this reason, for me, there is no doubt about his continuity. He deserves it for everything he does and has done.”
Ancelotti’s current deal with Real Madrid runs until the summer of 2024, although the Brazil national team is said to be courting the Italian manager for their vacant managerial post.
Ancelotti admits City were better
Meanwhile, Carlo Ancelotti has admitted that his Real Madrid team deserved to lose against Manchester City, as they were second-best to the English champions, Caught Offside reports.
The Italian manager said that there was no psychological decline, despite being blown away 4-0 by the Cityzens in the second leg of their semi-final clash at the Etihad Stadium.
Real Madrid have failed to defend the Champions League and La Liga titles they won last season, marking a disappointing end to their 2022/23 campaign.
