Five-time Champions League winner, Luka Modric has confirmed he will be extending his contract with the defending European champions for one more season.

Modric, who is set to enter his 12th season at Real Madrid, joined the club from Tottenham Hotspur in 2012 for a fee in the region of £30 million.

Despite his shaky start to life at Los Blancos, the Croat has since put the bad patch behind him and is now regarded as one of the finest players in the history of the club.

Regardless of his age, 37-year-old Modric remains an integral part of Carlo Ancelotti’s team. Following Real Madrid's Copa Del Rey triumph over Osasuna, the veteran confirmed his intentions to stay at the club, according to AS:

“My idea is to continue here at Real Madrid, for sure. This club is my whole life; Real Madrid is my whole life,” he said.

Though Modric is still in decent form, Real Madrid have taken the bold step of preparing youngsters who would serve as long-term replacements for the Ballon d’Or winner.

Modric's possible Real Madrid replacements

Recently, the club has spent big money on Aurelien Tchouameni and Eduardo Camavinga - who has remarkably developed not only as a midfielder, but also as one of the best full-backs in Europe.

Los Blancos are rumoured to also be nearing an agreement to sign Borussia Dortmund superstar, Jude Bellingham, according to reports by Marca.

The English youngster is on the radar of the Spanish giants, with his potential signing casting significant doubt over Modric's future at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium, due to a potential lack of game time next season.

Despite recent signings and interest from the Middle East and America, the Croat has confirmed his commitment to the club for a least one more year, and he is set to follow Toni Kroos and Karim Benzema in signing a new one-year deal.

Bellingham 'ready to join Madrid'

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Bellingham could leave Dortmund this summer, and remains on the radar of several top clubs in Europe, with a rumoured price tag of £130 million.

La Liga champions, Real Madrid are one of the top contenders for the English midfielder and are reportedly favourites to sign him away from the Bundesliga giants.
