  • Kaizer Chiefs' Dillan Solomons elbowed Swallows FC's Keegan Allan during their match
  • The incident resulted in a medical emergency as the Dube Birds defender could not get up
  • The referee acted in quick response, with Solomons' actions being criticised as dangerous

Referee, Cedrick Muvhali has enhanced his career in the space of several crucial minutes.

The Limpopo-based South African Football Association whistle-man was singled out for praise after his response to the plight of Swallows FC defender, Keegan Allan towards the end of the 2-1 victory against Kaizer Chiefs in the DStv Premiership on Monday afternoon.

Kaizer Chiefs striker, Dillan Solomons struck him in the jaw as both players went up for a header, which left Allan on the floor, holding his face.

Muvhali realised the gravity of the situation, getting involved in providing medical assistance before the team doctors and paramedics had even grasped what was going on.

Speaking on SuperSport programme Extra Time, former referee, current Premier Soccer League general manager, and pundit, Ace 'VAR' Ncobo called it a 'spot on' moment.

"He is trying to indicate to the medics that this is not a [run-off-the-mill incident]. They walked on thinking that it was a normal injury, holding just their bags. [Muvhali] realises that we need all the life-saving equipment to be nearby. This was a very crucial moment."

Ncobo: Solomons deserved red card

As for Solomons' actions, they seemed innocuous at first until a closer look was taken.

According to Ncobo, the striker should have been shown a red card for elbowing Allan, but believes the official was out of position at the time.

"Had he been positioned better than he was, he would have shown a red card. Look at where [Muvhali] is. He has got a player between himself and the action. The elbow that is used is used by the same player [Solomons] that is going in with the elbow into the opponent. So there is no way that the referee would have seen it. Two or three metres to the side, he would have had a better view. There were a lot of things happening, here."

Swallows guarantees safety

Sports Brief also reported that after Swallows shocked Chiefs in Polokwane, the Dube Birds kept their DStv Premiership status safe for another season at least.

The win at the Peter Mokaba Stadium saw Amaswaiswai climb to eighth spot on the league standings, ahead of their Premiership encounter with Royal AM on May 13.
