  • Andile 'Ace' Ncobo' has once again dissected a flashpoint that has marred a Kaizer Chiefs match
  • He confirmed that a red card that was handed to Stellenbosch FC net-minder Sage Stephens was the correct decision
  • 'VAR' also had his say on the Maroons coach Steve Barker's heated words after the match

"D-O-G-S-O"! Denying A Goal Scoring Opportunity!"

That is the term respected former referee and current Premier Soccer League Andile 'Ace' Ncobo has used to justify the red card that was handed to Stellenbosch goalkeeper Sage Stephens in a 2-1 loss to Kaizer Chiefs last Saturday. Stephens had deliberately handled a goal-bound shot by Keagan Dolly outside the box.

Ncobo also touched on the wild allegations that the Amakhosi are being favoured by referees lately

'VAR', as he has also come to be known, said on SuperSport on Monday evening:

"I have seen the hullaballoo on social media and in the print media about Kaizer Chiefs playing against 10 men. The coach [Steve Barker] made comments as well alluding to that. I am saying here on this show when a red card is given, and proven to be incorrect we will say so.
"But when it is shown that it is the correct one, then we will also say so. We don't care which team it is shown against, or which team supposedly benefits from this. With the red card, we look at DOGSO and the four elements: proximity to the goal, general direction of play, the proximity of defenders and the opportunity to regain control. It was a straight red card because he was denying Denying an Obvious Goal Scoring Opportunity."

This was all said in response to Stellenbosch coach Barker sarcastically stating that teams must train with 10 men in preparation for matches against Chiefs.

Ncobo confirms Amakhosi penalty

This is the second time in recent times that Ncobo has waded into controversy against the Chiefs.

Sports Brief reported that Ncobo said that a penalty the Amakhosi received against Maritzburg United two weekends ago was correct.

'VAR' was more disappointed that the referee was not more convincing with his decision. Read more:
