A player in the Spanish third tier endured a harrowing incident over the weekend after he suffered cardiac arrest on the pitch.

Dragisa Gudelj, a defender for Cordoba CF, collapsed in the 11th minute during their game against Racing Ferrol.

Gudelj went down, prompting quick and worried reactions from the crowd, fellow players and medical personnel at the Nuevo Arcangel Stadium.

As the Sun reports, an ambulance quickly rushed to the pitch with Gudelj getting treatment. The 25-year-old bizarrely wanted to carry on but was convinced to leave the field of play before being rushed to Reina Sofia for further observation.

Gudelj is the younger brother of Serbian international Nemanja Gudelj, who plies his professional trade with top-tier club Sevilla.

Cordoba and the player himself have since provided updates on the developments, with both parties thanking fans for their support and medical personnel for their quick response.

The game was abandoned with both sides evenly poised at one-all. Gudelj has played 24 times this season.
