  • Julian Nagelsmann's relationship with a journalist at German newspaper BILD "did not go down well" at Bayern Munich
  • Nagelsmann split up with his wife Verena after 15 years of being together, and it emerged he was dating Lena Wurzenberger
  • Meanwhile, Lena has reportedly left her role as a reporter at the German media outlet

Julian Nagelsmann's journalist girlfriend, Lena Wurzenberger, has been blamed for her partner's sudden sack at Bayern Munich.

Nagelsmann, who took over as Bayern boss in 2021, was sacked by the Bavarians despite leading the club to a quarterfinal berth in the Champions League and helping the club win its tenth successive Bundesliga crown last term.

Aside from sporting reasons, the 35-year-old's relationship with the journalist has been highlighted as his major downfall at the Allianz Arena.

According to GOAL, Lena initially stepped back from covering Bayern Munich as a BILD reporter when she began dating Nagelsmann.

However, her decision did little to repose trust in the dressing room, especially when documents showing how the Bundesliga club changed their tactics were leaked and ended up on BILD, where Lena worked.

Her relationship with Nagelsmann was a 'big problem', leading to trust issues among the playing body, former Bayern Munich and Germany international Markus Babbel has claimed.

"I know that Nagelsmann's relationship with a BILD reporter was a huge topic in the dressing room," Markus said, as quoted by Mirror.
He added: "It didn't go down well at all that he was with her. His girlfriend was, therefore, a big problem for Bayern.
"There was a lack of trust because some players just weren't able to communicate what they were thinking anymore. Because they were afraid that everything would end up in the newspaper."

Tuchel replaces sacked Nagelsmann

Meanwhile, Bayern Munich announced they had appointed former Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain coach Thomas Tuchel as their new boss after firing Julian Nagelsmann, Sports Brief reported.

The reigning German champions said in a statement: "FC Bayern and head coach Julian Nagelsmann have parted company... Nagelsmann will be succeeded by Thomas Tuchel."

Nagelsmann, 35, led Bayern to the quarter-finals of the Champions League, where they will face Premier League champions Manchester City next month.
