In their latest clash on Sunday, the Brazilian duo came face to face for the umpteenth time this season, and it was Vinicius who appeared to have won the battle of wills.

After beating his marker on the byline, the zippy winger made a cross into the Barca box only to be redirected into the back of the net by Araujo after the ball ricocheted off his head.

The fortuitous nature of the goal left the Brazilian fullback dejected, but Vini quickly approached his compatriot to console him.

His gesture towards his countryman warmed the hearts of soccer fans.

Vini backed to deal with Araujo

Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti backed winger Vinicius Junior to escape Ronald Araujo's shackles when Los Blancos face Barcelona on Sunday in the Clasico in La Liga.

The Brazilian winger, key for Madrid this season, has been shut down by Barca defender Araujo in recent clashes with the Catalans, with coach Xavi Hernandez deploying the centre-back on the right to confront him directly.

Vinicius has scored twice in 12 games against Barcelona, both times before Barcelona started using Araujo at right-back.

Vinicius dubbed "best player"

Sports Brief also reported that Carlo Ancelotti described the Brazilian forward as the best player in the world following his mesmerising performance against Liverpool.

Vinicius, along with Kylian Mbappe, is one of only two players in the last three Champions League seasons to have both scored and assisted on 10-plus goals (13 goals and 10 assists).

The Brazilian winger played a key role to help Real Madrid progress to the quarterfinals of the Champions League.
