  • Fulham's hopes of reaching the FA Cup semi-final fell apart within seconds at Old Trafford
  • Two players were red-carded with coach Marco Silva also talking himself into one as well
  • Before the quick red cards, the Cottagers were leading 1-0 but ended up losing the game 3-1

Fulham's FA Cup dreams were extinguished in brutal fashion at Old Trafford after three straight red cards in quick succession.

Aleksandr Mitrovic scored his first FA Cup goal in the second half in a game that the Cottagers dominated for long periods.

However, things quickly degenerated for the London-based club when Manchester United's blistering counter-attack was halted by Willian, who inadvertently stopped Jadon Sancho's shot from going in by using his hand.

Willian's red card

Centre referee, Cris Kavanagh was invited to review the decision. Given that it was a denial of a goal-scoring opportunity, the former Chelsea man was given his marching orders.

The Brazilian tried to argue that his arm was in the rightful position. However, replays showed the 34-year-old had seemingly swung his hand to put Sancho's shot over the line for a corner.

The Mitrovic incident

Mitrovic was then sent off after he remonstrated with the referee and ended up putting his hand on him.

The third red card of the circus, in fact the first to be issued, was given to coach Marco Silva, who protested the officials' decisions.

The decisions, though harsh for anyone associated with Fulham, were the correct ones. The FA could even take further action against Mitrovic as he appeared to shove the referee.

It took quite a while for the Serbian to calm down and leave the pitch.

Bruno Fernandes stepped up to score the resultant penalty from Willian's foul, with Marcel Sabitzer quickly adding a second one a few seconds later. Fernandes got his second in stoppage time to set up a semi-final date against Brighton and Hove Albion.

The other semi will see Manchester City face Sheffield United, with the possibility of having a Manchester derby for the final very high.

Usain Bolt meets ten Hag

At the same time, Sports Brief has reported that sprint legend, Usain Bolt met Erik ten Hag to share a moment on March 19.

The sprint legend was among the fans on Sunday evening as the Red Devils looked to maintain their push for a quadruple title.

The treble looks more likely now for Man United, as they are currently 19 points off the summit of the Premier League.
