  • Jamie Carragher is of the opinion Tottenham should put Antonio Conte out of his misery and sack him
  • This is after Conte went on an extraordinary rant after his side blew a 3-1 lead against Southampton
  • Conte said he “sees a lot of selfish players and not a team”, with Carragher suggesting the manager simply wants to be sacked

Former Liverpool star Jamie Carragher has weighed in on Atonio Conte’s extraordinary rant by suggesting Tottenham should simply sack the Italian to “put him out of his misery”.

Tottenham somehow let a 2-goal lead slip as Southampton mounted an extraordinary comeback on Saturday, March 18.

In the resulting post-match press conference, Conte blatantly called some of his players “selfish” as he criticized the club’s underachievement while also going for the club’s ownership.

"Spurs should just put him out of his misery and do it tonight."

Time for Conte to go?

The Southampton draw summed up what has been a miserable March for Tottenham so far, with the North London club getting dumped out of both the FA Cup and Champions League.

Exits from both competitions means Spurs’ wait for a first trophy since 2008 is set to continue.

According to multiple reports, Conte did not speak to players after the Southampton draw, and immediately went to media duties, clearly eager to speak his mind.

His rant went for 10 minutes, and Conte boldly claimed Tottenham “were used to” no trophies.

According to Carragher, Conte made some solid points, but added that a manager should not speak like that about his club.

Fans question VAR again

Earlier, Sports Brief reported on how Premier League refereeing was on the spotlight yet again on Saturday, March 18.

After a fragmented first half, the game sprung to life in the second, with five goals being scored, including a controversial last-minute Southampton penalty.

Tottenham Pape Sarr inadvertently made contact with Maitland-Niles in the box, and a penalty was the result, with James-Ward Prowse slotting home for the Saints to claim an unlikely equalizer.

On social media, fans were unconvinced of the penalty as they felt Maitland-Niles should have instead been booked for simulation.
