  • The gruelling ABSA Cape Epic cycle race is almost here and cyclists are ready
  • The most daring will be tested by the peaks of the Western Cape over a week
  • One of those brave enough to test himself in the elements will be Luis Enrique

For those who might not know, Luis Enrique is an avid mountain bike enthusiast.

The Barcelona and Spain legend is headed to South Africa to take part in the world-renowned 2023 ABSA Cape Epic.

This will be the third time the treble-winning La Blaugrana mentor and former La Furia Roja coach will take part in the mountain bike race, having done so in 2013 and 2018.

The race will start on March 19, winding along 648 kilometres of gravel before concluding on the 26th, as per the race's website.

Enrique resigned as coach of Spain after the side was eliminated by Morocco at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, the Mirror reported.

Being in the southern tip of the African continent will be a welcome relief for him, as he will have to - at some point - testify in the unfolding 'Negreira Scandal' rocking Barcelona.

Enrique to testify in case

Sports Brief previously reported on two former Barcelona managers being called to testify in the club's ongoing Negreira case.

The Catalans have been accused of paying £7.4 million to Jose Maria Enriquez Negreira, an ex-refereeing committee official.

Former Barca coaches, Enrique and Ernesto Valverde are set to be interviewed about their knowledge of the club's major scandal.

Chelsea fans on Enrique rumours

Sports Brief also reported on Chelsea hiring Graham Potter just over four months ago after sacking Thomas Tuchel.

There is increasing pressure on the Englishman to deliver results with the club firmly rooted in ninth place on the log.

There has been talk about Potter being replaced by Enrique, which has garnered mixed reactions from Blues fans.
