The heroic players of the U20 national team of Senegal have been given a triumphant welcome by President of the country, Macky Sall.

The players, technical team and management of the team were invited to the presidential palace following their arrival from Egypt.

The young Teranga Lions were crowned African champions after beating Gambia in the final of the tournament in Cairo.

President Macky Sall has promised each player 10 million CFA francs, which is equivalent to $16,000, per 13Football.com.

The West African nation have enjoyed a successful year in football, with the senior national team winning the Africa Cup of Nations for the first time in Cameroon.

This was followed by the beach soccer team before the home-based national team defeated Algeria to win CHAN 2022 earlier this year.

The U20 side swept aside their opponents, winning all games to be crowned champions of Africa and qualify for the World Cup in Indonesia later this year.

Their female national team have also qualified for the Women's FIFA World Cup, which will be held in Australia in July.

Senegal beat Gambia to win AFCON U20

Senegal have been crowned champions of Africa's U20 Cup of Nations after beating Gambia in the final in Cairo.

Forward Sulaymane Faye scored the opener with a powerful header in the first half before midfielder Mamadou Camara sealed victory in the second half.

The Young Teranga Lions are winning the tournament for the first time, having reached the final in 2015, 2017 and 2019.

They will also represent Africa at the World Cup to be held later this year in Indonesia.

Mane wins Senegal Player of the Year

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Bayern Munich winger, Sadio Mane has been voted the best Senegalese player abroad for the seventh time.

The former Liverpool star reclaimed the Jules Francois Bocande trophy after losing it to Chelsea goalkeeper, Edouard Mendy in 2021.

The 30-year-old attacker beat Mendy's Chelsea teammate, Kalidou Koulibaly and Boulaye Dia to win the coveted trophy.
