  • A court has reversed its decision to allow Gavi to be registered as a Barcelona first-team player
  • The Catalan giants took La Liga to court after it did not clear the deal to register the 18-year-old
  • Gavi signed a new contract at Camp Nou in September which binds him to the club until 2026

Barcelona’s registration of Gavi as a first-team player has been overturned by a court as the ongoing tussle between the Catalan club and La Liga continues.

La Liga had initially not given La Blaugrana the greenlight to register the 18-year-old in its first team after the midfielder penned a new contract with the club.

According to ESPN, the Spanish league body did not clear the deal because Barcelona were in excess of their spending limit, prompting the Catalans to take the matter to court.

The court then ordered La Liga to accept Gavi's registration because doing otherwise 'would imply the player's free agency and therefore cause serious, irreparable damage to Barca', as his previous contracts were set to expire this summer.

The Spanish league body now claims that due to Barcelona missing a deadline and invalidating Gavi's new contract, that decision has now been reversed.

Barcelona risk losing midfielder Gavi

Meanwhile, Barcelona are at risk of losing Gavi for nothing this summer following a court reversing its ruling on the registration of the midfielder, Tribal Football reports.

Premier League giants, Liverpool and Manchester City are watching developments closely and could swoop in if the Catalans fail in their bid to have him registered.

Gavi has been instrumental for Barcelona this season under Xavi, with the teenage sensation making a total of 36 appearances for La Blaugrana in all competitions.

Gavi makes head first tackle

Sports Brief previously reported on Barcelona youngster, Gavi's brave head first tackle during his side's La Liga tie against Athletic Bilbao.

The league leaders travelled to San Mamés to lock horns against Bilbao in their Spanish Primera Division encounter on Sunday night.

La Blaugrana went into the game six points clear of fierce rivals, Real Madrid at the top of the table and Gavi's dedication was impressive.
