AFCON 2023 U20: Flying Eagles Beat Tunisia To Win Bronze Medal

Flying Eagles of Nigeria on Friday night, 10 March, thrashed Tunisia 4-0 in the third place match at the 2023 African Under 20 Cup of Nations in Egypt to win Bronze medal.

The encounter was the fourth time the Flying Eagles will be finishing in third position at the U-20 AFCON even though Nigerians wanted them to win the title.

But coach Ladan Bosso and his wards were stopped in the semi-final when they lost against Gambia who managed to win the tie 1-0.

And as it stands, Gambia will be facing Senegal in the final of the 17th edition of the biennial African international tournament.

Who scored for the Flying Eagles?

Winger Ibrahim Muhammad opened the scoring for Nigeria on nine minutes before Ahmed Abdullahi made it 2-0 in the 46th minute.

Jude Sunday scored brace afterwards in the second half to give the Flying Eagles the victory.

Speaking to Sports Brief, coach Bosso praised his players for playing to instructions, but he regretted not reaching the final.

Statement made by Bosso

''I am happy that at least we have won bronze medal even though my target was to reach the final and lift the title, but my boys have learnt their lessons and we will work on it ahead of the World Cup.
''I want to thank Nigerians for their support and forgiveness from those who were not happy with our loss against Gambia.''

Victor Osimhen praises Khvicha Kvaratskhelia

Earlier, Sports Brief had reported how Nigerian striker, Victor Osimhen hailed his teammate at Napoli, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, claiming the Georgian footballer can go on to win the Ballon d'Or award in the near future.

Osimhen and the 22-year-old have formed one of the best partnerships in Serie A this season, combining for 33 goals and 19 assists for the Naples outfit.

Their incredible performances for Napoli has helped the club lead the Italian top flight league table and many believe they will go all the way to win the title this season.

Out of these 33 goals, Osimhen registered 19, with Kvaratskhelia providing six assists for the Nigerian strongman.

The Nigerian believes his Georgian teammate has won the hearts of Napoli fans through his brilliant displays.
