  • Amid a culture of winning at Mamelodi Sundowns, ill-discipline reared its head
  • Andile Jali and Sipho Mbule allegedly arrived at a training session while drunk
  • Rhulani Mokwena was not forthcoming about the reason for the suspensions

Mamelodi Sundowns players, Sipho Mbule and Andile Jali appear to not have covered themselves in glory amid a winning team.

According to a report, the duo allegedly arrived at the team's training sessions - in separate incidents - while under the influence of alcohol.

This led to the suspension of Mbule, though the reason for this could be something else entirely.

“There have been incidents of ill-discipline recently and this has the potential to disrupt the dressing room. Players behave in an unusual manner for different reasons, but ill-discipline is something that is not tolerated at this level.”

Coach, Rhulani Mokwena, when questioned about reputed problem-child, Mbule, smartly side-stepped a question about him by saying to the IOL:

“Yeah, unfortunately, Sipho is suspended for the next match. So he’s not in contention. But we’ll stick to one game at a time and see how we can go with Sipho leading up to Stellenbosch.”

There were no further details on Jali and rumours of his suspension.

Zwane targets 'rotten Chiefs culture'

The days of drinking, smoking and general partying mayhem at Kaizer Chiefs appear to be over, Sports Brief previously reported.

Coach, Arthur Zwane is determined to cut out this detrimental factor as the club aims to end a trophy drought of nearly eight years.

Leonardo Castro and Daniel Cardoso, ex-Amakhosi players, exposed a disturbing culture that included players arriving at training drunk.

Modabi admits to playing drunk

Sports Brief also reported on former Orlando Pirates and Dynamos player, Gerald Modabi telling an anecdote for the Premier Soccer League ages.

The ex-midfielder added humour to the dark aspects of 'alcohol culture' affecting many current and former players in South Africa and beyond.

In the middle of a discussion on SuperSport's absorbing talk show, Sitting With Stan, Robert Marawa asked Modabi about playing while drunk.
