  • Pep Guardiola believes Arsenal’s Europa League push might hamper their title chances
  • The Gunners beat Leicester City 1-0 to maintain their lead at the top of the table
  • They also face a tricky Europa League round of 16 game against Sporting Lisbon in March , something which Guardiola believes might take its toll

Pep Guardiola has made an interesting prediction on Arsenal’s title charges as the Spaniard predicted Gunners may struggle to juggle the Premier League and Europa League competition.

Arsenal remain two points clear of Manchester City after a 1-0 victory over Leicester City as the Citizens matched that result with a 4-1 win over Bournemouth.

Despite the slender lead at the top of the table, Guardiola strongly believes European football might take its toll on the North Londoners.

“Many games, still many things are going to happen.” Guardiola told BBC 606.
“I know how good they [Arsenal] are, I know we cannot drop points, but now they are starting to play Europa League as well.
“Many things are going to happen. They are going to drop points. We are going to drop points. The team who drop less points will be champions.”

Arsenal’s Europa League campaign

Following the Europa League draw on Friday, Arsenal learnt they were paired with Portuguese giants Sporting Lisbon for a chance to advance to the last 8 of the second-tier European competition.

The first leg will take place on March 9, and there are two league games to come before that tie; against Everton and Bournemouth.

Despite Guardiola’s claims, his side is also in similar predicament as Manchester City is also competing in the Champions League.

In fact, it is easy to argue that City have a more difficult task since their first leg round of 16 clash against RB Leipzig ended in a 1-1 stalemate. A grand finale at the Etihad in the second leg awaits next month.
