Sir Alex has been a regular at the club's games since his retirement in 2013. The club has experienced extreme lows during the period, but his presence has always been constant.

Against Barcelona, his raw emotion was visible as Antony fired in a volley to take the Red Devils ahead in the game and on aggregate.

In a video shared online, the 81-year-old stood up from his seat and joined the rest of the fans in applauding the team.

Ferguson meets ten Hag

This comes at a time when Ferguson was spotted having dinner with ten Hag. The former coach would be proud of the strides the Dutch manager has taken since he took over the club last summer.

The former Ajax boss has transformed the club, with the Red Devils battling for trophies on four fronts.

The two met at Cibo, a restaurant in Wilmslow. Details of their discussion remain scant and one can only speculate, given it was a private dinner.

Ferguson is said to be a regular at the restaurant.

How coach inspired United comeback

Sports Brief has also reported on ten Hag lifting the lid on his half-time speech that saw Manchester United beat Barcelona on Thursday night.

He masterminded arguably the biggest night of his Man United career to dump the Spanish giants out and progress to the next stage of the Europa League.

The Red Devils competed evenly and showed class across the two legs to signify the strongest indications of a return to glory days as under Sir Alex.
