Female Footballers Chase Down, Attack Male Referee Amid Game in DR Congo

A referee in the Democratic Republic of Congo was forced to flee the pitch after an all-women’s team physically attacked him during a match.

The match official overseeing DC Motema Pembe versus TP Mazembe was chased from the field after fury over a penalty call.

A video currently circulating on social media shows the official running from Motema Pembe players and officials, who aim numerous kicks, slaps and punches at him.

The team was said to be trailing 5-1 at the time.

It is believed the incident was sparked by the referee awarding a penalty to Mazembe, which caused furious Motemba Pembe players to lash out.

The referee reportedly had to be rescued from his attackers.

The DRC’s football federation is yet to respond to the incident although social media users have condemned the brutal attack.

Fans attack referees in Cameroon

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that referees in a Cameroonian MTN Elite Two league game between Unisport FC de Bafang and Victoria United were brutally attacked before the match ended.

Fans of Unisport swarmed onto the pitch after the referee awarded a 92nd-minute penalty to the away team.

The referees were then savagely attacked by furious supporters, forcing the match to end before the final whistle was blown.
