  • Manchester United beat Nottingham Forest 5-0 on aggregate to reach the Carabao Cup final
  • It would be the club's first final appearance at Wembley since they last won it in 2017
  • Bruno Fernandes produced a sublime skill and revealed the Portuguese inspiration behind it

The last time Manchester United won a trophy, Jose Mourinho was still the manager and it was the 2017 UEFA Europa League. Since then the club has only made one final, the 2021 Europa League which they lost.

Under head coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, United lost four semifinals as well as losing to Villarreal in Gdansk, Poland. They have now gone six years without a trophy and could break that barrier soon.

They dispatched Premier League newcomers Nottingham Forest 5-0 over two legs to book their place in the final where they will play resurgent a Newcastle United, as reported by Guardian.

Fernandes reveals inspiration behind trivela

The best moment of the match came when Bruno Fernandes pulled off the common outside of the boot pass popularly referred as trivela to set up Marcus Rashford, who laid it to Fred for the second goal.

Speaking after the match as quoted by Mirror UK, he was quizzed on the magical moment, and he credited compatriot and ex-Chelsea star Ricardo Quaresma as his inspiration.

''I learned from Quaresma. I had a great professor in Portugal, you have to learn with the players, you have to learn their tricks and you have to use them. As Luke [Shaw] said, one out of 20 [skills coming off] is not bad,'' he said.

Fans went wild at Fernandes skill

It was not the first time the former Sporting Lisbon player had pulled off the skill, but it still got Old Trafford on its feet and fans on social media wild.

Fernandes among best January signings

The January transfer window had just closed, and the bulk of the attention was on Chelsea's huge spendings which included signings of Mykhailo Mudryk and Enzo Fernandez, both of whom cost almost £200m.

Sports Brief listed Fernandes as one of the best January signings in the Premier League having joined United in 2020. He sits with fellow United stars, Nemanja Vidic, Patrice Evra as well as Liverpool signings Luis Suarez and Virgil van Dijk.

Bruno, whatever the impact he has had at Old Trafford is yet to lift a trophy for the club. He has the chance to do that against Newcastle on February 26.
