- Controversial Argentina goalkeeper Emi Martinez hosted a couple of friends at a high-end party
- The theme of the party suggested that the Aston Villa custodian was still celebrating his World Cup victory
- Martinez made headlines in the Qatar 2022 World Cup for his vital saves and subsequent celebrations
It has taken a while but the noise around Emi Martinez has finally quietened down after a busy December. Martinez helped Argentina to the World Cup trophy, but it was his antics thereafter that landed him into a lot of trouble.
One month on, the goalkeeper is still celebrating. He treated some of his friends to an Argentina-themed party over the weekend. The presence of a replica World Cup trophy suggested that it is yet to sink in he is a world champion.
Martinez was Argentina's best player after Lionel Messi. He twice came to the Albiceleste's rescue in the quarterfinals and the final in the post-match penalty shootouts. Against France in the final, he saved a point-blank effort from Randal Kolo Muani with only a few seconds remaining.
He thereafter went overboard with his celebrations with particular attacks on French star forward Kylian Mbappe. He was roundly criticised for his behaviour with FIFA opening investigations into the matter.

The Sun reports that the Aston Villa shot stopper treated his close friends to a glamorous party at the Belfry Hotel close to Villa Park.
Unai Emery's side were knocked out of the FA Cup by Stevenage and thus had a free weekend. In photos shared on Instagram by various accounts including Martinez's wife Mandinha, a couple of Aston Villa players including Philliphe Coutinho and Emi Buendia attended the party.
The walls of the hotel were in blue and white colours, the same as Argentina's home jersey with the guests in all-white apparels. Latin crooner Fer Palacio was also in attendance. At some point, Martinez's wife was allowed to DJ.
Martinez's improper gestures
