  • Manchester City look set to trim their squad ahead of the summer transfer window
  • The move could see some top players shipped out as Pep Guardiola embarks on a rebuild
  • Ilkay Gundogan top a list of Man City stars who could move on at the end of the season

Reigning Premier League champions Manchester City could be set for a busy summer transfer window that could see at least five players allowed to leave.

City have been dominant in the English top flight for more than a decade now, with the arrival of Pep Guardiola as the club's manager further cementing their place as one of the best teams in the league.

However, with Premier League rivals still strengthening their squads, the Citizens are expected to keep up with the pace in order to stay at the top.

According to Sportbible, the Manchester-based outfit are expected to refresh their squad in the summer, in a move that would see about five players shown the door.

Which players could leave Man City?

Spanish journalist Jose Alvarez claims that no fewer than five players could depart the Etihad Stadium at the end of the season, with their departures expected to help the club raise funds for transfer targets.

While appearing on El Chiringuito, Alvarez said that Ilkay Gundogan and Bernardo Silva headline the list of top players who could exit.

Kyle Walker, Joao Cancelo and Aymeric Laporte are also likely to move on.

Gundogan's deal with City is due to expire at the end of the season, with reports suggesting that he could join Barcelona.

Pep sells top stars

Incredibly, Pep Guardiola is never afraid of allowing top players to part company with him.

Last summer, the Spaniard sanctioned the departures of Raheem Sterling, Gabriel Jesus, and Oleksandr Zinchenko.

The three sealed moved to Premier League rival teams, with the duo of Zinchenko and Jesus currently helping Arsenal in the hunt for the first league title since 2004.

Guardiola demands more from Haaland

Sports Brief earlier reported that Guardiola demanded more from Haaland after the derby loss to rivals Manchester United a few weeks ago.

The striker was more or less a passenger in the match, he failed to hit the back of the net and contributed next to nothing to the match as City collapsed in the final stages.

Though the Spaniard does not agree with claims he has made City worse, he urged his striker to get more involved in the matches. He has assisted his teammates three times this season.
