  • Eric Bailly's loan spell with Marseille has taken a sharp turn after he was banned
  • The Manchester United defender was heavily sanctioned for his brutal challenge
  • Earlier this month, the Ivory Coast player left Almike Moussa N’Diaye hospitalised

Manchester United defender, Eric Bailly has been slapped with a ban over his rash challenge on an opponent.

Bailly is currently on loan in the French Ligue 1 with Marseille, with whom he is expected to spend this season.

The Ivorian centre-back was shipped out temporarily by the Red Devils, as he was considered surplus to requirements at Old Trafford.

However, his hopes of impressing during his short spell at Marseille have been dented, after he was handed a seven-game ban for a tackle that left an opponent hospitalised.

Bailly injures Moussa N’Diaye

According to Metro UK, Bailly was sent off in the 15th minute of Marseille's Coupe de France match against Hyeres earlier this month.

The centre-back was red-carded after he studded Hyeres midfielder, Almike Moussa N’Diaye in the chest.

N'Diaye was subsequently rushed to the hospital and put in intensive care as a precaution, after it emerged he was suffering from pain in his lung and liver.

Bailly has already missed Marseille’s wins over Troyes and Lorient in the French top flight, and is now set to spend more time out of action.

Fresh reports indicate that the Ivorian will miss a further five matches as punishment for his kung fu style kick on N'diaye.

That implies that the former La Liga defender will only be available for selection once again when Marseille takes on Toulouse on February 19.

Drogba commends Eric Bailly

Sports Brief earlier reported that Ivorian legend Didier Drogba is delighted with Bailly, who has left Premier League club, Man United to join French side, Marseille.

The defender has moved to the Ligue 1 outfit on a season-long loan, which includes a possibility of a permanent transfer at the end of the season.

Bailly started in just three Premier League matches last season, having fallen out of favour with every United manager since Jose Mourinho in 2017.
