  • Lionel Messi has been paid a unique tribute in his homeland Argentina as his face has been immortalized on a cornfield.
  • The 35-year-old forward completed his trophy collection after guiding Argentina to the country’s third FIFA World Cup win earlier in December.
  • Messi entered into Argentine folklore, joining Diego Maradona as the country’s greatest footballers after winning the World Cup.

Following his victory in the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup, Lionel Messi received a special tribute from an Argentine farmer as the superstar’s face has been inscribed on a cornfield.

Messi has been immortalized in Argentina in tributes ranging from tattoos to murals, and the cornfield design is just the latest of many show of thanks to the Paris Saint-Germain star.

Messi scored seven goals and assisted three in seven matches as Argentina ended their 36-year wait to win the World Cup in Qatar after defeating France via penalties in the final.

The Argentine captain also entered the history books as the first footballer to bag the Golden Ball award twice at the FIFA World Cup.

Messi is unbeatable claims farmer

Meanwhile, Maximiliano Spinazze who is the farmer behind the cornfield to celebrate Lionel Messi has revealed his act was a means of celebrating the World Cup victory, Reuters reports.

Spinazze also disclosed that Messi is unbeatable following his latest feat with Argentina by giving the South American country their first World Cup since Diego Maradona led the team in 1986.

A farming engineer named Carlos Faricelli created the programming for the seed-sowing machinery that allows farmers to plant the seeds in an exact manner to produce the final image, with some places having more seeds per square inch than others.

Scaloni picks Lionel Messi over Maradona

Earlier, Sports Brief reported Lionel Scaloni who is the head coach of the Argentina national team has named Paris Saint-Germain star Messi as the greatest footballer ever rating him ahead of Diego Maradona.

Messi recently led Argentina to win the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar last December beating France in the final, while Maradona led the South Americans to win the 1986 title.

For years, the Messi versus Maradona debate had a clear winner in Argentina, but now, following the former Barcelona captain’s heroics, the scenery has seemingly shifted.
