Mahous hit the ball straight at Ethiopian goalkeeper Fasil Gebremichael, who could only parry it into his own net with a weak left hand. Mahious also gave Algeria a 1-0 win over Libya in the opening match of the tournament on Friday, though this came from the penalty spot.

Algeria, with the win, sealed their passage into the quarterfinals, leaving Libya, Ethiopia and Mozambique in an intriguing scrap for the other last eight place in Group A.
