FIFA Puskas Award: Mbappe, Richarlison, Balotelli Headline 2022 List, Alessia Russo In

FIFA has officially released a list of 11 goals that will battle it out for this year's Puskas Award.

The award is always given to the player who scored the most beautiful goal, and both men and women are eligible.

The 2022 World Cup in Qatar saw some aesthetically pleasing goals.

Richarlison's bicycle kick against Serbia was voted as the goal of the tournament. It has once again been nominated for the Puskas Award, but will face competition from Kylian Mbappe.

Mbappe starred in Qatar with eight goals for France, including a hat-trick in the final against Argentina. His second goal to restore parity is up for contention.

Mario Balotelli has also been nominated, after his goal for Adana Demirspor against Goztepe in the Turkish League left fans wowed.

4. Amandine Henry (Lyon W) vs Barcelona W

5. Alou Kuol (Australia U-23) vs Ira U-23

6. Theo Hernandez (AC Milan) vs Atalanta

7. Francisco Gonzalez Metilli (Central Cordoba) vs Rosario Central

8. Salma Paralluelo (Villareal W) vs Barcelona W

9. Dimitri Payet (Marseille) vs PAOK Thessaloniki

10. Alessia Russo (England W) vs Sweden W

11. Marcin Oleksy (Warta Pozman) vs Stal Rzeszow

The winner will be announced on February 27, during the FIFA Best award ceremony in Paris.

FIFA releases its 'Best' nominees

Sports Brief has also reported that FIFA has released a star-studded list of 14 nominees for the Best FIFA Men's Player award.

The Paris Saint-Germain trio of Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe and Neymar made the final 14, as did their teammate, Achraf Hakimi.

Manchester City’s Argentine talent, Julian Alvarez also made the cut, while Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski, who won the 2021 edition of the award, is also on the list.
