  • Cristiano Ronaldo's nightmarish 2022 has transcended into the New Year
  • The 37-year-old Portuguese, who became the highest-paid footballer after joining Al-Nassr, missed out on the 2022 Men's World Team
  • Meanwhile, archenemy Lionel Messi earned a deserved spot in the Dream XI after helping Argentina to World Cup glory

The 2022 Men's World Football Team has been revealed by the International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS).

As expected, players who impressed at the 2022 World Cup including tournament best player Lionel Messi and Golden Boot winner Kylian Mbappe starred on the list.

The 2022 dream XI however witnessed a conspicuous absentee in the shape of Al-Nassr's new signing Cristiano Ronaldo, who had a calendar year to forget after an abysmal World Cup and an acrimonious exit at Man United.

Messi wins 2022 World Best player crown

Lionel Messi has been named the 'World's Best Player' for 2022 by the International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS).

Messi crowned an exceptional 2022 in the best possible fashion, winning the FIFA World Cup with Argentina while also emerging as the tournament's best player.

He beat competition from PSG teammate Kylian Mbappe, whom Messi beat to the World Cup trophy, and current Ballon d'Or holder Karim Benzema to win the accolade.

Zidane picks Ronaldo as GOAT

Sports Brief earlier reported that Zinedine Zidane is one of football's all-time greats, but he knows a player who is better than him.

The former French legend once weighed in on the 'greatest of all time' debate, and his comments have resurfaced once again.

The former French international was previously asked to pick between Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, and he explained why he thought the Portuguese star was better than the Argentinian, Goal reported.
