Footballers often miss chances from near impossible moments and such was the case for English Premier League club Southampton in their 2-1 Carabao Cup win over League One club Lincoln City.

Counter-attacks are great advantages for you to score and opponent and some managers mostly set up their team to play in such manner, even with a numerical advantage Southampton blew a glorious chance.

Lincoln took a surprise lead in the first half but Southampton proved why they are Premier League clubs by firing two goals back, Che Adams was the hero with the two goals even though he's eventually make the biggest blunder.

Worst counter-attack miss ever?

The Scotland forward scored in the 26th and 74th to overturn the early lead by the League One club but moments later he selfishly threw away a counter-attack goal despite having two teammates in better position to score.

Adams had Stuart Armstrong and Mohamed Elyounoussi to his side but instead sat the goalkeeper down three times before eventually kicking it straight back at the goalkeeper and out for a corner.

Another chances goes begging

The Saints proved not to be saints after all on the night as another glorious chance was blown minutes after Che Adams miss.

Young forward Samuel Edozie was fed through in front of goal but blew his chance wide off the target. The misses did not prove costly and Southampton made it to the quarter-final of the Carabao Cup.

Liverpool shuts down transfer talks

Sports Brief earlier reported that Liverpool assistant manager Pep Lijnders shut down questions on the club's January business during the press conference of the Carabao Cup game against Manchester City.

Lijnders represented Jurgen Klopp who has recently been designating League cup press duties to his Dutch assistant, and he sent the journalist back to Klopp.

Liverpool remains firmly interested in England young midfielder Jude Bellingham and Moroccan midfielder Sofyan Amrabat, both of whom impressed at the World Cup.
