President of the United States of America, Joe Biden has congratulated Argentina on their 2022 FIFA World Cup triumph.

Argentina beat France on post-match penalties to hand Lionel Messi a trophy he had so long yearned for.

Messi was similarly voted as the best player of the tournament, after finding the back of the net seven times and assisting three times.

What Biden said about Messi

Biden retweeted a tweet from Argentina's President Alberto Fernández and said:

Exciting feature: Check out news exactly for YOU ➡️ find "Recommended for you" block and enjoy!

"Congratulations to you, Alberto, and to every Argentinian for yesterday’s hard-fought and well-deserved victory. You know, I think that Messi guy might have a future," he tweeted with a winking emoji.

The joke about Messi having a future has been debated widely by fans. At 35, the veteran ideally has at least three more years to play at the highest level.

@IamObie_1 said:

"You think that Messi guy might have a future Mr president?? That Messi guy has been the God of football for years now and is inching closer to retirement. So that Messi guy already had a future and a fantastic one at that."

Biden's country were eliminated in the round of 16 by the Netherlands, after a gallant showing in the group stages.

If Biden seeks reelection in 2024 and gets the seat for a second term, he will be at the helm when America hosts the next World Cup together with Canada and Mexico.

Barack Obama on GOAT debate

Sports Brief had earlier reported that former US President Barack Obama joined millions of football fans from around the world, in giving their opinion about the raging Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo GOAT debate.

The Argentina talisman is considered by many to have settled the debate, after leading La Albiceleste to their first World Cup triumph since 1986 in Qatar on Sunday night, December 18.

Messi and Ronaldo have dominated the sport for nearly two decades, setting numerous - potentially unbreakable - records along the way.
